After surviving his suicide attempt, the author had a profound spiritual experience of rebirth by God's mercy. This experience is portrayed using allegory, which captures this difficult journey in vivid, prophetic allusions. The story is dark, but ushers in God's great hope, and emphasizes our calling to persevere and trust in his love.
