In Austria and Hungary, the larvae feed on Centaurea scabiosa, Centaurea jacea and Centaurea triumfetti, while Carduus uncinutus, Carduus arabicus, Carduus salonitana and Jurinea sordida are the foodplants in Ukraine. Larvae of ssp. hades feed on Staehelenia uniflosculosa in Greece.
