But when nine kids show up to play, one little boy feels left out when he's asked to be "just the ref." What starts as a one-time gig quickly becomes a full-time job as the boy finds himself playing ref every day. But when the ref is absent from school for a few days and the soccer game falls apart, his classmates-and the ref-soon gain a new perspective on all it takes to keep the game going. Just the Ref offers a powerful reminder that everyone has something valuable to contribute and no role is too small.
By day, Pamela Downs is a wife, mother, and project center of excellence manager. When she's not busy juggling the balls of working motherhood, she can be found with her nose in a book. Pamela has been an avid reader her entire life. There was rarely a time when she wasn't devouring books. That love of the written word led her to obtain her bachelor's degree in English literature from the College of New Jersey and a master's degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While she studied creative writing and dabbled in poetry and short stories, it was only after having her children that Pamela finally found the courage and inspiration to turn her own pen to paper. Just Me, Pamela's first book, was inspired by and celebrates her daughter's fearless independence and self-confidence. Pamela lives in North Carolina with her husband, daughter, son, two cats, and two dogs.
