'The prolonged adolescence of a dilettante poet' is a journey through the territories of alienation, marital tensions, the thirst of artists and the nostalgia for a lost authenticity. 'The prolonged adolescence of a dilettante poet' is a journey through the territories of alienation, marital tensions, the thirst of artists and the nostalgia for a lost authenticity. Sergio Márquez, a waiter shaken by the rural uprooting of his childhood, his musical restlessness and urban disenchantment, struggles between the eternal nights of the city and the tedium of a life that never lived up to its promise. Between drinks, bar conversations and the notes he manages to coax from his violin, the protagonist pursues a dream that always eludes him, like a stray cat that you can never manage to pet. By his side is Ana, his wife, who lives trapped in a relationship that wavers between nostalgia and disdain, while love becomes a minefield of silences, reproaches and evasive glances. Together, they are the perfect couple to explore what happens when the enthusiasm of your twenties crashes into the precariousness of your forties. With clear and realistic prose, albeit full of lyricism, Yonka Zarco draws the reader through the streets of a southern city where the night becomes a refuge for those seeking to escape monotony, while at the same time becoming a setting for superficial and decadent relationships. The bars, pubs and clubs become vitalizing microcosms where human contradictions unfold. A novel that honestly portrays the truths of a possible love.
