Dante's encounter with his great-great-grandfather takes up three cantos in the Divine Comedy's Paradiso. It is a central episode from which emerges the relationship of the Great Poet with the past and, in particular, with his ancestors. "Dante", explains the author, "needs to find his roots, but roots that can give him prestige. An ancestor in which he can recognise himself or, still, that has a commonality of values with him and a same spiritual richness. A human desire in a completely human Dante. Is this a weakness?".
