Charles Wagner (1852-1918) fut un pasteur protestant, écrivain et philosophe français dont l'oeuvre a profondément marqué la pensée éthique et spirituelle de son époque. Né à Vibersviller en Lorraine, il grandit dans un milieu modeste qui forgera sa sensibilité aux questions sociales et son attachement aux valeurs de simplicité. Après des études de théologie à Strasbourg et Paris, Wagner embrasse la carrière pastorale, d'abord en Alsace puis à Paris. Sa quête de sens et son engagement pour une spiritualité ancrée dans le quotidien le conduisent à développer une philosophie de vie centrée sur l'éthique du quotidien et la sobriété heureuse. ' La vie simple ', publié en 1895, devient rapidement son oeuvre la plus célèbre, traduisant sa vision d'une sagesse pratique accessible à tous. Ce livre, qui connaît un succès international, reflète l'essence de sa pensée : la recherche d'une authenticité relationnelle et d'une vie en harmonie avec des valeurs essentielles.
