Landscaped Gardens in Germany. 200 p. w. 250 ill. (Text in German) The landscaped garden is regarded as one of the most important contributions of England to the history of European art. Originating in 1720 out of a new feeling for nature, the new natural style became widespread in Europe towards the end of the 18th century. This book deals with the new type of garden in Germany, the country, which perhaps most closely imitated the English model. The most important gardens still existing and the most significant owners and landscape gardeners are presented in this volume. An introductory section explains the historical background. A further chapter describes the essential design characteristics of these gardens.
