O autor nasceu em Viena. Passou a sua infância e juventude em Lanzendorf. Frequentou a escola secundária na vizinha Schwechat e estudou medicina em Viena depois de terminar o liceu. Após uma formação como médico de clínica geral no hospital de Tulln, especializou-se em psiquiatria nos hospitais psiquiátricos estatais de Gugging e Mauer.
