Sir Jack Wilkins is a celebrated, recently retired judge, who is haunted by a ruling he made many years ago in a rape case concerning a well-known MP. He believes he was responsible for a tragic outcome. On a holiday in Venice with his wife, he visits the Church of San Giorgio and, with the encouragement of an Italian priest, Father Anthony, seeks a resolution by partly reconstructing the original trial. Professional actors bring their own insights and experiences to the exercise, with dramatic and surprising consequences. The play ends with a return to the Church of San Giorgio with the hope of finding the mysterious Father Anthony... Nigel Pascoe is a senior QC, acting principally in murder cases, who also writes plays and stages one man shows, notably the Trial of Penn and Mead (Old Bailey 1670).
