El autor, brasileño graduado en enseñanza secundaria, es profesor desde 1983. Sus cualificaciones académicas son: Licenciada en Ciencias Sociales (Habilitación: Geografía), Especializaciones en Estudios Geográficos y Psicopedagogía, Máster en Ciencias de la Educación (UMa-EN) y Doctora en Ciencias de la Educación (UA-PT).
