Perlentaucher-Notiz zur NZZ-Rezension
Gleich vier Bücher über Johannes Calvin, die jetzt zu dessen 500. Geburtstag erschienen sind, hat sich Caroline Schnyder vorgenommen. Sowohl in Christoph Strohms als auch in Peter Opitz' gleichermaßen durch "zurückhaltendes Wohlwollen" geprägte Biografie erkennt sie vor allem ein Interesse an den theologischen Hintergründen. Während Strohm jedoch Calvin als "französischen Reformator schlechthin" charakterisiert, der in Frankreich auf breite Resonanz stieß, wird er bei Opitz "fast schon zum Schweizer", der als Genfer Reformator als Hauptgegner der Lutheraner gesehen wurde, erklärt Schnyder. Insbesondere diese Biografie lobt sie für ihre fundierten Kenntnisse und die klare Sprache.
