Legacy of a Beer Stein offers thirty standalone stories of four young girls (ages 4-18) growing up in the New York countryside. The storyline begins with Julie after she inherits her family's antique beer stein. She uncovers childhood memories that provoke vivid flashbacks, revealing the secrets of her youth when she chased butterflies, provoked mischief, captured infinity, and stumbled upon astonishing revelations. During her early childhood, the family relocates to an Upstate farm. The twins and two neighbors, the first Baby Boomers, quickly adapt to the picturesque mountain community. They "test the ice" as they meander through the many frustrations and failures of a vexing adolescence. The book ends at a party where Julie encounters a lingering paradox. She must abandon her childhood companions and leave her family behind after 18 years. The creative memoir will enthrall many of the sixty million baby boomers who came of age in the 1950s and early 1960s.
Autorenporträt
June Schoenfeld grew up in a rustic New York village snuggled up to the Catskill Mountains and nurtured by the Susquehanna River. The region offered challenging adventures and endless enjoyment to the local children. Wild animals acted as playmates, wheelbarrows posed as toys and 375 acres of rolling hills served as enchanted playgrounds. Wanderlust consumed her summers. She took her BA in English from Wagner College and studied journalism at Boston University Graduate School. Soon after, she discovered the allure of international infrastructure development. Her career path took an unexpected turn. What began as a short-term job lasted for 30 years and introduced her to extraordinary people in exotic cultures. Today, June lives in Northern Virginia and is delighted to explore events closer to home. She sings sacred music, cares for wild but friendly animals, supports water programs for arid, thirsty countries, and preserves the same environmental wonders she discovered as a child.
