It's weird. It's dark, and it is weird. The world is under a microscope in Leisure's Edge, a collection of surrealist short stories that interweave elements of parable, modern koan, cyclical nightmare and Vanaprastha. Exploring themes of self-importance, statistical probability, agoraphobia, legacy, cannibalism, infinity, mathematics, and the hypnotic lure of the permanence of art, the collection employs humour, not as a mere device, but as a weapon against itself. Leisure's Edge holds up a mirror to society so that it may stare back and splash cold water in its own face. The stories have complexity and depth, they are thought-provoking with innovative literary structures yet wholly readable. This work will resonate with admirers of José Saramago, Donald Barthelme, Jorge Luis Borges, and Dostoyevsky's The Crocodile.
Autorenporträt
By age twelve David had begun painting, making music and met his future wife, Mary-Anne. They married at age 21 and are the proud parents of a straight daughter and a queer son. He attended OCAD in Toronto and went on to travel to over 40 countries as a Director. He wrote his first collection of stories in Casablanca, Morocco after realizing that his complete misinterpretation of a news article made for better reading. Writing became a productive and more portable creative outlet on his travels to cities around the world. In 2020 David has devoted himself full time to writing, painting and recording music. He approaches writing in a surrealist manner; warping realistic elements into recognizable but cyclically nightmarish scenarios. David and his wife live in Toronto, Canada. His art studio 'The Art Room', named in honour of his first art teacher Jerry Weber, is located in the industrial west end neighbourhood of Long Branch.
