Huysmans, Joris-Karl ; Paris, 5 février 1848 - Paris, 12 mai 1907. Né d'un père néerlandais, lithographe issu d'une longue lignée de peintres, et d'une mère française, institutrice, Charles-Georges Huysmans trouva très vite sa voie au carrefour de l'art et de la littérature. Romancier, critique d'art, ami de Zola, des Goncourt, il adhère au naturalisme, qu'il délaissera pour le symbolisme et l'esthétique décadente fin de siècle qui marquera son style. De la même manière, après avoir exploré en curieux les méandres de l'occultisme et de la magie noire, il reviendra à un catholicisme orthodoxe et affirmé. Décédé encore jeune d'un cancer, il laissa une oeuvre aussi foisonnante que le fut sa vie.
