This book examines the life stories and future prospects of adult students returning to school. The research was conducted at a municipal school in the city of Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The class surveyed belonged to the Integrated Adult Action Project, in the Youth and Adult Education modality. The methodology used in the process was: mapping of data related to the class; documentary analysis (the school's Pedagogical Policy Plan and the rules of the Integrated Adult Action Program); qualitative research based on empirical observations of the group of students (classroom, quarterly social gatherings, and graduation); semi-structured interviews with a sample of students and the class teacher; and data analysis by category. Among the theorists who contributed to the analysis, references to Paulo Freire, Álvaro Vieira Pinto, and Miguel Arroyo stand out. The objectives of the research were: to contextualize the realities and life stories of the subjects researched; to analyze the extent to which students plan for the future based on their re-entry into school; to observe and analyze the importance of school for students.
