Karyn McLaughlin Frist was born in Lubbock, Texas, where she grew up with her parents and one sister. After earning a bachelor's degree in teaching from Texas Christian University, she taught physically and mentally disabled children in the local public schools in Dallas, Texas. She is an advocate for the arts and women's and children's health issues. Karyn is also a private pilot and in her free time enjoys gardening and physical fitness. She and her husband, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, live with their three sons in Nashville, TN and Washington, DC.
