Soil compaction caused by machine traffic is an important issue in agriculture due to the resulting productivity losses and the high cost of decompaction, which is often short-lived. Precision agriculture (PA) uses advanced technologies to monitor and manage various activities in the field, with the aim of optimizing production, increasing resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The control of machinery traffic on the farm, dependent on precision agriculture technologies, helps prevent soil compaction. Another way to minimize the effects of soil compaction is to use modern machine wheels, which cause less compaction, require less tractive effort and reduce fuel consumption, making them another alternative. Although most farmers find it difficult to implement these technologies, some pioneers have adopted initiatives that demonstrate the viability of their use and can help to better manage the farm as a whole, optimize costs and contribute to sustainable development.
