Ernest Naville - 13 décembre 1816, Chancy ; 27 mai 1909, Genève. Fils de pasteur, il fit des études de théologie à l'Académie de Genève, avant de consacrer sa vie à la recherche et à l'écriture. Théologien, philosophe, auteur et préfacier, éditeur, traducteur, conférencier, il parvint à une très grande popularité et a laissé une oeuvre immense. Mais il est surtout connu pour son remarquable travail éditorial sur les manuscrits de Maine de Biran, travail qui sert encore aujourd'hui de base aux chercheurs.
