Mama canned every summer through fall. She canned tomatoes, green beans, crowder peas, all kinds of pickles, peaches, apples, pears, apple jelly, and fig preserves. She sterilized the jars, filled them, processed them in boiling water, Daddy helped her tighten them, and I love the popping sound the jars made as they cooled and sealed. It was a lot of work, but the bounty we enjoyed all year long was so good!
