Produktbeschreibung
A new, introductory textbook on the media and mass communication industries that champions the pioneering examples and perspectives of managers and entrepreneurs from racial and ethnic groups whose contributions to media have been previously overlooked. This textbook provides students with a grounding in critical pedagogy and praxis, foundational technologies and their evolution, and the role of the internet and media convergence, as it explores the historical and foundational developments of print, broadcast, and new media. Key areas covered include books, newspapers, magazines, photography, radio, television, film, music, social networks, podcasts, and video games. Each of these chapters includes a comprehensive, historical overview of the medium, as well as a more diverse representation of the key players within each media industry. As such, the book highlights the crucial contributions of historically marginalized racial and ethnic individuals and groups. Each section provides a thematic overview of chapters with key points to consider and concludes with discussion questions, key terms, and points for media literacy application. An important introduction to media and mass communication industries, this textbook is essential for any instructor wishing to provide their students with a more diverse foundation in mass communication. The book also has an accompanying eResource, which includes links to organizations that promote diversity in media, as well as an instructors' manual and test bank.
