José Luis Varona Lucena (Córdoba, 1961) es maestro armero. Desde muy joven, su vida ha estado profundamente ligada al mundo de las armas, una pasión que heredó de su padre, quien le inculcó el amor por la caza y lo introdujo en el oficio de la armería. Como muchos cazadores, comenzó su andadura con la caza menor, pero con el tiempo fue encontrando su verdadero lugar en la caza mayor, modalidad que practica con mayor frecuencia en la actualidad. Con más de un millar de monterías a sus espaldas, ha compartido momentos inolvidables con compañeros monteros en los paisajes más agrestes de la geografía hispánica. Hoy en día, José Luis trabaja en su Córdoba natal, en el negocio familiar de armería junto a su madre y hermanos. Es responsable de la sección de reparación, montaje y puesta a punto de todo tipo de armas de fuego, un oficio que desempeña con la misma dedicación y precisión que caracteriza su amor por la naturaleza. Además de su trabajo en la armería, ha participado en numerosos programas de televisión relacionados con el mundo de la caza y las armas, ptv, Canal Caza y Pesca de Canal+, Lances de Canal Sur Televisión, y en diversos medios audiovisuales y de radio de ámbito autonómico y nacional, compartiendo su vasta experiencia y conocimientos sobre el tema. Es autor de la obra Memorias. Confieso que he cazado, en cuanto a Memorias de caza de un maestro armero, es su segundo libro y viene a completar lo vivido y aprendido en su andadura como cazador y armero.
