Many people with intellectual disabilities are already mentally ill when they are admitted to a care facility. Their increased susceptibility to crises means that those affected often find it difficult to maintain their home and workplace due to behaviour that is dangerous to themselves or others. In the past, the path to a psychiatric hospital was inevitable. Today, institutions are increasingly having to deal with these problems themselves and find new ways of doing things. The theoretical part of this thesis describes significant findings that influence resilience and thus also the process of life and suffering. Psychodynamic concepts are also presented. In addition, the author presents a pedagogical-psychodynamic diagnostic tool for caregivers and educators based on the work of Swedish educator Gunnar Kyle n and psychoanalyst C.G. Jung, which she also draws on in her practical work. The theoretical discussions are illustrated by a case study (psychotherapy over 13 years).
