Meta Sociocracy - Meta S A Framework for Collaborative Governance Innovation Beyond Nested Circles - A Proposal for a Post-Hierarchy Era By Adrian Zarif In a world of accelerating complexity, the need for more adaptable, inclusive, and meaningful governance systems is becoming urgent. Meta Sociocracy (Meta S) is a groundbreaking white paper that proposes a next-generation governance framework designed to address limitations found in traditional sociocracy models - particularly the constraints of nested circle hierarchies and role-based leadership. Developed by Adrian Zarif, a sociocracy expert with a background in engineering and social philosophy, this work introduces the Bearing Governance Model (BGM) and the Consent-Based Scoring Protocol (CBSP) - innovative tools that retain the spirit of classical sociocracy while unlocking its next evolutionary phase. Meta Sociocracy (Meta S) challenges the status quo with clarity and respect, offering: - A shift from nested hierarchies to circle constellations - The elimination of formal leadership roles in favor of distributed agency - A deeper application of equivalence across members, circles, and organizational levels - A quantifiable, transparent method of consent that strengthens clarity and shared responsibility - A governance architecture that enables scaling and federalization without increasing structural complexity - An integrative framework that honors diverse sociocratic practices, offering a shared language for dialogue and collaboration across traditions This book is the beginning of a work in progress - a living framework and an open-source invitation to thinkers, practitioners, and changemakers ready to co-create the future of collaborative governance. About the Author Adrian Zarif is the founder of Sociocracy.Academy® (https://sociocracy.academy) . He began his journey with classical sociocracy, first as a practitioner, then as a facilitator and trainer, supporting groups and organizations in applying sociocratic principles such as participation, inclusivity, equivalence, shared responsibility, and consent-based decision-making. As his experience transformed into expertise, Adrian began offering consulting services to support sociocracy enthusiasts and organizations seeking collaborative and transparent ways of working. His background as an engineer, combined with a philosophical perspective on society and systems, has fueled his search for ways to overcome structural limitations and hidden hierarchies that often impede full equivalence, stifle initiative, or constrain the flow of collective intelligence. This search led him to develop Meta Sociocracy (Meta S), alongside the Bearing Governance Model (BGM) and the Consent-Based Scoring Protocol (CBSP) - a framework that retains the proven strengths of classical sociocracy while introducing fresh, scalable innovations for the future of governance. The outcome is this white paper: a proposal for collaborative governance that remains loyal to sociocratic roots while inviting evolution.
