Produktbeschreibung
In a world replete with microorganisms, humans have evolved alongside these tiny entities, sharing the same environment and establishing intricate relationships with them. This book covers the world of bacteria and archaea, two groups of microorganisms that have played both beneficial and detrimental roles in different environments. By exploring the diverse life of these microorganisms, the book aims to tell the story of the importance and the need for further research into their different and largely unexplored aspects. The book is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of bacteria and archaea, starting with their evolutionary and systematic history, as well as their diversity, highlighting the unique characteristics and adaptations that allow them to thrive in diverse environments. The reader will be introduced to the metabolic processes of bacteria and archaea, including the production of primary and secondary metabolites, which are crucial for their survival and interaction with other organisms. Thanks to technological advances, we now have the tools to better understand the systematics, life activities and biotechnological applications of microorganisms. This book explores these applications in depth, from developing new treatments and therapies to improving crop yields and soil health. The biotechnological potential of these microorganisms is vast and promising. This title is aimed at researchers and students interested in environmental biology and biotechnology and is a valuable resource for understanding the complex world of microorganisms. By examining the microbiota and microbiome, and using microbial omics, readers will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to appreciate the profound impact these microorganisms have on our lives and the environment.
