Albert Frederick Calvert was an English author, engineer, and explorer, born on July 20, 1872, in Kentish Town, Middlesex, England. He was the son of mining engineer John Frederick Calvert and Grace Calvert, née Easley. His younger brother, Leonard, accompanied him on an exploration to Western Australia, but tragically passed away during the journey. Calvert became active in Australia, particularly in the remote Murchison region, where he conducted several explorations. His notable contributions include documenting wildlife and conducting surveys of the Australian frontier. One of his key discoveries was a bird he named the "Spinifex Paraquet," although the specimen was lost. Calvert's work in the region culminated in the publication of Western Australia: its history and progress in 1894. In addition to his explorations, Calvert's writings also included works on engineering and history. His life was marked by his adventurous spirit and dedication to documenting the lesser-known aspects of Australia's natural history. He passed away on June 27, 1946, in Islington, London, at the age of 73, leaving a legacy as an explorer and author with a keen interest in the Australian frontier.
