An accurate and detailed report of Florence mayors, gonfaloniers, podesta, royal and prefectural commissioners. The authors describe a backward journey from Matteo Renzi to the first gonfalonier, Giuseppe Maria Panzanini (1782-83) and recreate the history of the town using a plain and ironic language. The portrait of the characters analyzes their greatest political and professional achievements, together with funny stories and events related to the political and economical history, uses, sports and city traditions. The book takes us back to an almost forgotten past, made of celebrated personalities and their extraordinary events: from the Fiorentina bankrupt in 2002 to the assassination of Lando Conti, from the flood of 1966 to Buffalo Bill s tour when Niccolini was the mayor. I ntroduction by Sandro Rogari.
