Meet Cat Douglas—monster hunter. A historical fantasy adventure set in Scotland and the second in a series by award-winning author Jane Yolen. With engaging graphic novel inserts, 8-11-year-olds will travel to historical 1880s Scotland, a land in desperate need of monster hunters in this series of adventures. The Birds of Terror are coming. Black Dog, a Scottish and British creature capable of foreshadowing death brings this chilling warning. These monstrous creatures are descendants of a long-forgotten flock from South America where they lived undiscovered for over a millennia. But now they’ve made their way to Scotland in search of food and shelter after their jungle home was destroyed. A birder (a Twitcher) finds one of these birds in the walled garden of a castle, putting the Fife in danger. The R&A Monster hunters are in disarray because the heirs of the castle won’t let them on the grounds. Can the Anster Royal & Ancient Monster Hunters gain access to the castle before it’s too late? Or will the Black Dog’s prophecy come to pass? With time running out, and more birds likely to follow, the fate of Fife hangs in the balance in this gripping monster-hunting adventure. Join Cat and her friends as they adventure through a fantastical and historical Scotland in this second installment of the Monsters of Fife series. Graphic novel panels are interspersed throughout the novel, making it an engaging read. The three books in the series have collectible posters meant to be pieced together to create one big poster.
