He is said to have taken and hidden a diamond from King Charles I. He became an English novelist and poet, achieving literary recognition with his novel Moonfleet, published in 1898. Alongside his literary work, he pursued a distinguished career in business, eventually rising to become chairman of the arms manufacturing company Armstrong Whitworth during World War I. Falkner s life reflected a balance between his literary interests and his professional achievements in the industrial sector. His writing often incorporated historical settings and atmospheric detail, contributing to his reputation as a storyteller. He also held positions as a schoolmaster and librarian and was known for his scholarly interests, particularly in antiquarian studies and architecture. Falkner spent significant periods in the north of England, including County Durham, where he lived until his death on July 22, 1932. His partnership with Evelyn Violet Adye began in 1899. Falkner s works have been adapted into other media, including a film version of Moonfleet, helping to sustain his legacy as an author whose stories continue to captivate audiences.
