Kaveh Akbar nació en Teherán en 1989, y a los dos años su familia se mudó a Nueva Jersey. Poeta y académico iraní-estadounidense, suyos son algunos de los poemarios más celebrados en los últimos años (Calling Like a Wolf, Pilgrim Bell), y sus creaciones han aparecido en The New Yorker, The New York Times, Paris Review y The Poetry Magazine con gran éxito de público y crítica. También documentó su travesía por la sobriedad en Portrait of the Alcoholic, en el que explica como la poesía fue un instrumento esencial del proceso. Es también el fundador de Divedapper, una publicación que lleva una década ofreciendo entrevistas a los mejores representantes de la poesía moderna. ¡Mártir! es su primera novela, y en ella pueden verse todos estos escenarios de la vida de su autor.
