Prof. S.A.I. Tirmizi, an eminent Historian and an international authority on Indian Archives was Hony. Director, Hamdard Institute of Historical Research, New Delhi. He was formerly Director, National Archives of India, Secretary, Indian Historical Records Commission, Visiting Professor, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, Adviser NISTADS (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) and Unesco Consultant. Prof. Tirmizi is very widely travelled and has to his credit more than a dozen research publications including three brought out by the Unesco. He was also associated with the International Council on Archives and the Unesco in various capacities.
