Nowadays, a significant part of recent scientific research in various fields of applied sciences addresses the integration of datasets of different natures and complementary methodologies aimed at solving specific problems and reducing uncertainties. In the present days, the available technologies and methodologies for the monitoring and preventive conservation of cultural heritage are promising, and the scientific community has been finalizing studies to find approaches fast with effective and easy 3D documentation. In fact, in the cultural heritage field, the integration of different types of complementary information can greatly improve the diagnostic process for the conservation state of monuments and artworks. Moreover, monumental structures and heritage sites are at risk from pollution, tourism, and geo-environmental disasters such as earthquakes and climate change. Their protection is the duty of future generations. The main target of this special volume is to highlight the need to integrate different disciplines and different professional skills during the process of diagnosis of materials of different natures that constitute monumental heritage and works of art. Consequently, this volume is aimed at a large audience of applied scientists, such as architects, restorers, geologists, applied petrographers, and civil engineers, who consider the case studies presented in this reprint of interest to them.
