He also demonstrates how features inspired from Indo-Iranian sources are present in Aeolian Greek epic traditions that emerged during the Iron Age, notably the Argonautic search for the Golden fleece.

Roger Woodard is Andrew van Vranken Raymond Professor of the Classics at the University of Buffalo (The State University of New York). He has held fellowships at the Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University, The American Academy in Rome, and the University of Oxford, and is the author and editor of numerous books, most recently Aeolic and Aeolians: Origins of an Ancient Greek Language and its Community of Speakers (2024).
