Conquest or investment in the Sahara? Planting huge pivots in deserts to grow wheat, while expecting honorable yields, is a risky mission. The approach adopted involves massive inputs of mineral fertilizers and treatments known to be harmful. Yet these practices, dogmas dictated by the chemical industry under the guise of warnings, DLs etc., seem to trivialize the impact on our health and our environment. Would this be the most appropriate way to achieve our country's food security? What will become of our Saharan ecosystems? Is it possible to produce healthy cereals, fruit and vegetables while respecting living organisms?
