New Testament Basics for Catholics builds on the bestselling Bible Basics for Catholics (more than 120,000 copies sold) with a fresh, in-depth look at the heart of the New Testament. Award-winning author and Franciscan University of Steubenville theology professor, John Bergsma shows how one central message runs through every page--"The kingdom of God is at hand!" With his trademark stick-figure illustrations and down-to-earth style, Bergsma guides you through the New Testament to reveal how each book draws us deeper into the mystery of God's kingdom: - Matthew's gospel unveils Jesus as both Son of David and Son of God, uniting heaven and earth in one kingdom. - Luke's gospel and Acts of the Apostles show the kingdom's growth and the early Church as its visible sign on earth. - Paul's letters teach us how to live as members of God's kingdom in community. - John's gospel and the Book of Revelation point us to the ultimate fulfillment of the kingdom in heaven. Together with Bible Basics for Catholics, this volume completes the big picture of salvation history--from Adam to Jesus, and from the Old Covenant to the New. Whether you're new to the Bible or have studied it for years, Bergsma's hope is that this book will ignite your zeal for the faith, deepen your love for the sacraments, and inspire you to keep learning and sharing God's Word.
