The Fifth International Conference on Recent Advances in Engineering Sciences (ICRAES-2024) is part of the ICRAES conference series, a biannual event organised by M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, India. ICRAES-2024, with a theme "Next Generation Materials for Sustainable Technologies", brought together leading academic scientists, industrialists, research scholars, students, delegates, and exhibitors, promoting the exchange of experiences and research findings on advanced materials for sustainable technologies. ICRAES-2024 aligned its objectives with the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Key areas of focus included polymer composite materials, nanocomposite materials & applications, materials for renewable energy sources & sensors, smart materials, optimisation techniques in materials processing, next generation building materials, biomaterials, advanced materials in healthcare, etc. This volume contains the selected papers resulting from the conference with key focus on latest advancements in application of nanomaterials, composite materials, biomaterials for sustainable solutions.

N. V. R. Naidu, Chief Editor Dr. Naidu N. V. R. is currently serving as Principal at M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India. With over 43 years of experience in academia and research, Dr. Naidu academic journey includes B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, M. Tech. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Sri Venkateshwara University. He has received Dr. J. Mahajan Award (2008-2009) from the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering. Throughout his illustrious career, he has held pivotal roles such as Dean Faculty of Engineering and Executive Council Member at Visvesvaraya Technological University, reflecting his dedication to the advancement of academic excellence. He is serving on various academic boards and contributing his expertise to prestigious institutions in the field of Engineering. Dr. Naidu's expertise extends to research, evident in his 140+ published papers in prestigious national and international journals and conferences. He contributes as a reviewer for rep¿utable journals and has chaired sessions at various conferences. Dr. Naidu has authored nine text books span¿ning Management, Total Quality Management, and Operations Research. Dr. Naidu has significantly impacted academic research, guiding seven doctoral candidates in areas like robust design and supply chain networks and he is adjudicator for Ph.D. theses acaross India. His international engagements in countries like the USA, Japan, and Canada have enhanced industry-institution interactions. He has executed numerous funded prögrams and projects, advancing academia and industry collaboration. Chandraprabha M. N., Editor Dr. Chandra Prabha M. N. is currently working as Professor & Head of Department of Biotechnology, Ramaiah Institute of Technology. She has 18 years of teaching and research experience and her research interest includes microbe-substrate interactions and application of nanomaterials/nanocomposites in environmental and health biotechnology. In particular, her research focuses on exploiting the functional properties of nanomaterials and bio-material interfaces for various engineering applications. She has published over 100 research papers in peer reviewed International Journals and 15 book chapters. She has presented her research in various International Scientific Forums. She serves as a reviewer for many international journals. Her research has been funded by various Government Funding Bodies. She was a visiting scholar at Columbia University, USA during 2004 under DST-NSF joint research program. She has received Fellowship from CEFIPRA-France, to undergo a high level scientific training at CNRS, Henry Poincare University, Nancy, France in 2003. She is also the recipient of the "Career Award for Young Teachers" by AICTE, India in 2010 and "Award for Excellence in Research" by Ramaiah Institute of Technology in 2019. Madhu G. M., Editor Dr. Madhu G. M. is working in chemical engineering department of MSRIT. His areas of interests include non-material synthesis and applications, membrane separations, water purification technologies, combustion synthesis, and nano polymer composites. Dr. Madhu has successfully completed 6 major funded projects from organizations such as DRDO, VTU, IEI, and DST. Under his guidance, 10 students have completed their Ph.D., and two students have completed their M.Sc. in Engineering. He is currently supervising 3 Ph.D. students. He has delivered numerous invited talks at national and international conferences. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Madhu is the current Chairman of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), Bangalore Chapter. He is a life member of several professional organisations, including IIChE, IEI, InDA, and IAENG. Dr. Madhu has organised over 20 workshops on outcome-based education and accreditation and serves as a master trainer for NBA accreditation. He has mentored 11 institutions for NBA accreditation as part of the Margadarshan Project funded by AICTE.
