This paper is split into a theory part and a research part. The first part (chapters 2-3) sets out the theory and includes definitions and explanations to help you understand the empirical part better. The theory part starts by defining and describing the word "reading". The terms reading competence, reading and reading aloud are explained and placed in a meaningful and understandable context. This is followed by a brief, partly historical description of the term 'reading aloud' in order to highlight the fundamental effects and potential of reading aloud in the next section. The family is then described as the first important institution for the transmission of literature. Reading aloud is important for a child's development. The aim of this paper was and is to restore some of the original appeal and popularity of reading aloud. It aims to show the positive effects that reading aloud can have in childhood.
