Produktbeschreibung
A Deeply Moving Family Saga Set in early 20th century Baltimore, and reaching back into Tsarist Russian occupied Lithuania, Ona's Tears is a remarkable tale of loss and resilience, based on true stories. Aldona, a young woman reeling from tragedy and persecution, assumes her sister Ona's identity. She flees from Kaunas, Lithuania, to Baltimore, Maryland. As "Annie," she must maintain a false marriage and work long hours in a garment factory. Her struggle is lightened by her immigrant community and two B & O Railroad workers closest to her. This rich, emotional novel explores Annie's life, as well as the lives of her family left behind an ocean away. It explores profound themes of identity, sacrifice, and the enduring strength of women, reminiscent of Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale or Min Jin Lee's Pachinko. It is a powerful story of resilience, unbreakable family bonds, and the desperate hope for a new future under the shadow of an unforgiving past.
