Oswald D. Heck (February 13, 1902 Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York - May 21, 1959 Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. In 1933, he married Beulah W. Slocum. He was a Republican member from Schenectady County of the New York State Assembly from 1932 to 1959, and was Speaker from 1937 until his death in office. Heck was the last Speaker from Upstate New York. As of 2011, he is also the longest-tenured Assembly speaker in New York State history; current speaker Sheldon Silver is slated to surpass Heck in 2018, assuming that Silver's Democratic Party retains power in the chamber and that Silver both stays alive and wins re-election in 2012, 2014, and 2016 (as of 2011, these are near certainties, given Silver's state of good health and the gerrymandering of the state assembly borders).
