Hey, it's Dave. I wrote a book. Here's what one reader had to say about it: ''' >Pacific Crest Gothic Horror is perfect for readers of experimental fiction, fans of atmospheric storytelling, and anyone who enjoys a sharp edge of humor with their horror. This collection is a must-read for those who love the strange and the deeply unsettling.''' Hey, it's Dave. I wrote a book. Here's what one reader had to say about it: ''' >Pacific Crest Gothic Horror is perfect for readers of experimental fiction, fans of atmospheric storytelling, and anyone who enjoys a sharp edge of humor with their horror. This collection is a must-read for those who love the strange and the deeply unsettling.''' The reader was chatGPT and the description definitely sounds like an AI talking, but other than that, I agree. For something a bit more personal, here's how this must-read collection for fans of atmospheric storytelling came about: In December 2022, I sat on the bed in the guest room of my parents' house. I'd moved back to New York about a year before, after 5 and a half years in Los Angeles. My time in California was a period that began with an exciting job offer from a colleague, to help develop water resiliency technology. He'd signed his offer letter with a reference to the golden frontier of the 1800's-"Go West, young man". The period ended in pandemic-ridden calamity, decorated with burning cop cars. First floor windows across the city were boarded up-5 percent from stores going out of business, the rest as protection from social justice activists tagging and smashing them. On the bed, I wrote the first line of the first story that would grow into Pacific Crest Gothic Horror 2 years later: Max and Sophia pressed their faces against the walls of their neighboring studio apartments. On and off over the next two years, Pacific Crest Apartments would be built out, and its residents and neighbors would descend into madness. I hope you enjoy Dave Marulli's blend of gothic horror, satire, and flashes of brutal realism.
