Paper Bag Equations invites you to wrestle with God. Across seven years of poetry, Cameron Goya Lynde battles the systems of guilt, shame, and self-distrust built into his religious background. He writes with a longing for honest peace and durable hope, dissatisfied with lopsided, systematic answers. When the numbers don't add up-when the equation doesn't work-he writes a new one, continuously evolving towards more love and fairness. These poems are accompanied by analog 35mm film photography. The photos provide calm moments between the wrestling poems. Where his words express a snapshot of his inner grappling, his images provide reminders that life goes tenderly on. With photography primarily on Oahu, as well as Portland, coastal Oregon, central California, and the Big Island, and poetry cataloguing Goya Lynde's de- and re-construction, Paper Bag Equations calls to the God-wrestlers, the mind-mathematicians, and all those writing their way into love and peace.
