Paul Klee (1879-1940) was one of the outstanding personalities of 20th century art history. Along with the Blauer Reiter group, Klee also got to know Wassily Kandinsky, with whom he shared not only artistic ambitions but also a deep friendship. After each of them was invited to teach at the Bauhaus in 1920, Klee became a professor at the Düsseldorf Academy in 1931. Condemned as a "Degenerate Artist", Klee fled to Switzerland, where he died in 1940. In addition to his works of art, Paul Klee left behind diaries and distinguished writings concerning art theories.
