The aim of this work is to carry out a study on Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs), with an analysis applied to the São Pedro stream basin, in the municipality of Anhumas, São Paulo, with the main focus on identifying and analyzing the environmental situation of the PPAs in this area. The research highlights the concept of Permanent Preservation Areas according to the Forest Code (Law 12.651/2012) and other state measures that establish these areas and subsidize their implementation. Some forms of environmental preservation of existing PPAs in the Pontal do Paranapanema region were surveyed, as well as a description of the situation of all the points visited, combined with an analysis of the PPAs in the São Pedro stream basin, and shows a scenario of difficulties in applying the Brazilian Forest Code in river basins in general, such as the failure to correctly delimit PPAs and points of intense anthropic interference.
