Debs in Terre Haute, the worlds of author Kurt Vonnegut in Indianapolis, and the homes of the many American presidents in Ohio (including those of Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, and Benjamin Harrison). In Canton, Ohio, he writes about William McKinley, yet another president who based his presidency on imposing tariffs, and in Elmira, New York, he finds where Twain put the finishing touches on Huckleberry Finn. Matthew Stevenson is the author of many books, including Reading the Rails , Appalachia Spring, The Revolution as a Dinner Party (about China throughout its turbulent twentieth century), Biking with Bismarck (travels in historical France), and Our Man in Iran. Out more recently is Donald Trump's Circus Maximus and Joe Biden's Excellent Adventure, about the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, and The View From Churchill: Travels in the Footsteps of Britain's Last Lion. He lives in Laconnex, Switzerland, which is outside Geneva.
