Based on the music of Beethoven, Holst, Vivaldi, Mussorgsky and Saint-Saëns, among others, this poetry represents some of the finest work by A. J. Mittendorf. Sometimes he presents translations, sometimes parodies, but mostly the poetry is all fully original, inspired only by the music A. J. so desperately loves and enjoys. Much of the poetry is sonnets, some is free verse, some of it is song lyrics, but all of it is the outpouring of A. J.'s soul onto the page before him.

DEDICATION In Memory of Stuart McLean (1948-2017) Dear Stuart, It was you who first called me "friend," and I had done nothing to deserve such favour. You, however, profoundly took on the role of friend, and not just because you read three of my stories on the air and published two of them. You always welcomed me warmly, shook my hand kindly, accepted my submissions gratefully read all of them faithfully, and commented encouragingly. You spoke with me as a friend, welcomed me as a friend, introduced me as a friend, and I was powerless to return the affection even then; how much more so now? What I have to give I give in honour of you- your charm, your warmth, your kindness, your openness, your generosity, your friendliness, your thoughtfulness. To you I dedicate these stories. You were, in part, their inspiration, you were their impetus, you are their raison d'être, I still miss you, Stuart, and I will never forget you. "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee."
