Dr. Parimelazhagan Thangaraj is currently working as a professor and the Head of Department of Botany, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India. He completed his graduation from St. Joseph's College, Trichy and PhD from Bharathiar University. He worked as a scientist in Defense Research and Development Organization, Ministry of Defense, Govt. of India. He has 23 years of research and 15 years of teaching experience. He has done his post-doctoral research at USA. Added to the credits, he had authored eight books in his field of specialization. He has four patents granted and has more than 113 research publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals. Under his supervision 15 scholars have been awarded the PhD degree. He is operating many projects funded by DBT, DST, UGC and DRDO. Dr. Thangaraj has been conferred with UGC mid career award. He has been nominated as Fellow of Royal Society of Biological Sciences, London and Fellow of the Linnaean Society, London. He was the founder director of IPR Cell, Bharathiar University for more than 7 years and have been instrumental in procuring 18 patents for the University. He also has an additional charge as Director, Centre for Research and Technology Development and Special Officer, Planning and Development Cell and Deputy Coordinator, RUSA.
