Prayer is communication with God. Ideally, it is two-way communication where believers talk to God and God talks to believers. If prayer is only a one-way communication, it often becomes dull and boring, but if we talk and listen, as we would if we were in a conversation with another person, prayer comes to life. Prayer may include thanksgiving, worship, adoration, or humble confession. One may share intimate thoughts and emotions with God. Prayer may take the form of intercession - petitioning or pleading on behalf of another person. Prayer may also be supplication, which is a heartfelt, humble request for something. Ernest prayer and intercession promote closeness with God. We can learn much about God and ourselves when we pray if we open our hearts to what He has to say. God is all-knowing, meaning He has all the answers, so if we listen when we pray, we receive insight, in addition to answers.
