One Man. Two Names. Five Perspectives. Kwame Gyamfi has lived several lives, and very few people know all of them. What is a story but one person's retelling of a moment or a series of moments? When enough of these moments are shared one upon the other, they create a picture of a year, a decade, a life. We put them in books and call them memoirs. But what if those same moments could be viewed through a prism? What if, instead of just one person telling their truth, we change our point of view? One Man. We incline our head slightly or cast our gaze downward or even close our eyes and take a deep breath. Maybe we'll discover new shapes and colors and aromas-new perspectives-that bring depth and richness to the story. Maybe we'll find connections between my story and yours. This is Kwame Gyamfi's story-vignettes from one man's life that come not just from his point of view but from five perspectives. With the help of five writers, he tells his story of being abandoned as a child and experiencing foster care, adoption, gang violence, and prison. Along the way, he discovered sports, music, beauty, and love, which helped shape him into the mentor and man he is today.
Kwame Gyamfi has served in many roles during his eighteen years in public education. Working with public and private schools since 2007, he has served as a campus supervisor, high school football coach, African American caucus sponsor, facilitator of equity, inclusion, and diversity, and student advocate. For nearly two decades, he has coached football at the youth through college levels. He helped write the African studies curriculum for Lincoln High School in 2021. ¿In his current role on the Malone Center Leadership Team, Kwame is the School Community Coordinator, serving as the after-school principal running the Community Learning Center at Lincoln Northeast High School. He also reviews legislation and its potential impact on the community. Kwame creates quality programming with a focus on civic engagement through the use of STEAM, mentorship, and social-emotional learning programming for a diverse group of students. He is the creator of the Human Connection Strategies program at Civic Nebraska and the student-driven Future Harvest program at Northeast High School. ¿Kwame is currently the Co-Chair of the Lincoln Memorial Day Committee and a recent Citizens University Fellow. He is also an award-winning writer, an African historian, a public speaker, an artist, and a business owner.
