This book is a compilation of the papers and posters that have been accepted and presented at the Global Conference on Economic Diversification 2024. The main subject of the Global Conference on Economic Diversification (GCED) 2024 was to address methodological, theoretical, policy focused, and thought-leadership outcomes based on the EDI dataset and beyond. GCED brought together research scholars, academics, policy experts, and government decision-makers from around the world working on the frontiers of research and implementation of economic diversification. Accepted papers which were presented in this series, concluded either with rigorous research insights based on empirical analyses of important hypotheses pertaining to economic diversification or suggested policy recommendations based on in depth case studies and/or mixed method approaches. These insights thus is useful both for policymakers, economists in charge of macroeconomic stability, treasury officials and seniorresearch faculty interested in the topic(s) of economic diversification, the resource curse, revenue diversification, and/or the commodity dependence trap.

Keertana Subramani is an economics policy researcher at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government where she has co-authored reports such as the Economic Diversification Index, the Arab SDGs index and dashboards report, conducted empirical research on topics including the impacts of automation on labor force. She holds a M.Sc. in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Economics from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research has been disseminated in several influential forums such as the COP 28, the World Government Summit and the MENA Climate Week. Keertana co-chaired of the inaugural Conference on Economic diversification 2024. Hamid Saeed is an experienced learning resources administrator, an e-learning specialist, and an instructional technologist. He has numerous publications in international journals and developed competencies in Learning Management Systems. Apart from serving at the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government, he has served at some of the most prominent accredited institutions of higher education in Dubai including the University of Dubai and the British University in Dubai. His qualifications and professional skills include a Ph.D. in Management and a double master’s in information studies. He possesses thorough knowledge of academic standards and practices of blended learning, excellent communication skills, and research orientation. He has regularly delivered information literacy programs/workshops to undergraduate, and post-graduate students, researchers, and faculty. Fadi Salem is the director of Policy Research department at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government and holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Oxford. Dr. Salem is an international authority in digital governance, future technology, and data policy domains. He serves as a member of several influential governance boards and international expert groups, including the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Advisory Board (Dubai Digital Authority), the Digital Government Society Board (DGS), the Global Council on SDG 16 (World Government Summit), the Expert Group on Governance Implications of Artificial Intelligence (ISO SC42 Working Group) and the Open Loop initiative’s Global Experts on the Governance of Emerging Technologies. Dr. Fadi Salem co-chaired the inaugural Conference on Economic diversification 2024.
