This book includes peer reviewed articles from the IKS for Viksit Bharat 2047 (IKS-VB) held on 11-12 April 2025 at Chandigarh in India. It presents how the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) can be practically applied to create sustainable and harmonious human settlements. It addresses the critical challenges of modern urban and rural development by showcasing indigenous solutions for environmental conservation, governance, and socio-cultural preservation. By drawing upon ancient wisdom from Vastu Shastra, traditional ecological knowledge, and time-honored governance principles, this work provides innovative strategies for building resilient and sustainable communities. In alignment with the ethos of balancing development with cultural and ecological integrity, the book aspires to cultivate a harmonious coexistence between human progress and the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage, ensuring the long-term vitality and sustainability of human habitats.

Autor

Vikas Chand Sharma, an Associate Professor at Chandigarh University and a researcher at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, brings 13 years of experience in architectural design, urban planning, and research. He specializes in sustainable urban design strategies for historic cities, combining phenomenological approaches with digital mapping. His foundational research on religious spatial patterns and new urbanism was published in 2016. He has co-edited two Scopus-indexed books published by international presses. Vikas is a Scientific Committee Member for Contesti. Città, Territori, Progetti and an Editorial Board Member for Energy Catalyst. His work appears in the International Journal of Construction Education and Research, Journal of Architecture & Urbanism, and Landscape Research.

Dr. Anurag Varma, an academician, architect, and consultant, brings over 25 years of diverse professional experience. Currently, as the Executive Director of the Liberal Arts and Humanities cluster at Chandigarh University, he concurrently leads his self-owned design and planning consulting firm. His expertise spans spatial planning, urbanism, heritage conservation, and architectural design, showcased in leadership roles at a top-100 ENR rated International Design Firm and a leading workshare firm. Dr. Varma is a consultant to government, corporate, and NGO sectors while also holding a senior academic leadership position, overseeing strategy, operations, and research for six constituent institutes, encompassing 10 departments and 23 programs. His academic journey includes Doctoral research from TERI School of Advanced Studies, focusing on sacred cultural heritage and its intersection with urban planning in pilgrimage towns, alongside interests in sustainable built environments, architecture pedagogy, and advancements in education.
