A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs as a result of a direct or indirect mechanical force applied to the head. It is considered to be one of the main public health problems worldwide and its epidemiological characteristics vary according to each population, and it is among the most frequent types of trauma in emergency services. The aim of this study was to characterize the profile of patients with traumatic brain injury seen in the emergency department of a ULS in the north of Portugal. The results show a predominance of males, with an average age of 63.5 years, with a higher incidence of TBI in patients aged 85 or over. The main etiology was falls from height, with a predominance of mild TBI.
